The God I don’t Believe In

NO I SHALL NEVER BELIEVE IN :

the God who sneaks up on us to catch us out

the God who enjoys, or sends pain

the God who is a spoilsport, or a killjoy

the God who sends sickness

the God who wants us to live in fear

the God who is like Harry Potter waving a wand at whim

the God who wants us to always be formal with him

the God who we can only find by chance

the God who casts people into hell

the God only the intelligent can understand

the God who wants us to grovel

the God who lets us stew

the God who sees all sex as dirty

the God who ignores the poor

the God who sends AIDS as a punishment

the God who wants to ambush us

the God who can be bought

the God who is lifeless

the God who is cynical

the God who puts law before people

the God who says ‘tough luck’

the God who is regimented

the God who constantly quotes the Law

the God who ‘forgives’ but does not forget

the God who cannot cope with our anger

the God who is owned by one church, class or culture

the God incapable of smiling at our many mistakes

the God who always demands a grade A

the God who does not want to be part of our party

the God who has a list of sins that are unforgivable

the God who prefers the rich, the powerful and the famous

the God who never cries for, or with us

the God who is not present when two men love each other

the God who is stingy and measured

the God who won’t wait for us

the God who won’t come looking for us in the darkness

YES, MY GOD IS THE OTHER GOD
